Ulhas: "there isn't a viable strategy on which effective tactics can be based. If this state of affairs continues in future, IMHO we will be very lucky if Marxist mass politics survives in the long term." Marxist mass politics is already dead. It's not a question of all agreeing at this point to follow the same strategy, but that tactical considerations - voting etc - should be subordinated to larger strategic questions. We need to recognise that not all on the left will want to follow the same program. But rather than maintaining the fiction of unity, pretending that we're all part of a big coalition, we should be unafraid of recognising that we're not even all on the same side. I'm not arguing for sectarianism - talking to each other is no bad thing (!). But we're not all part of a 'movement of movements'. Ulhas's point suggests that nothing can be done - if there's no viable strategy, what is there? Arbitrary tactics? Strategy might be defensive, but a defensive strategy is still viable, and is still a basis on which tactics can be based. ___________________________________ http://mailman.lbo-talk.org/mailman/listinfo/lbo-talk
