"Was the Scopes trial in Kansas? I finally saw most of the flick about it, the one with Spencer Tracy. ... How true to the story was the film? "

wouldn't go to court with this, but i recall it( seen many years ago) as a liberally biased piece of shit...

all scopes-ites were neanderthal, and the "good" people were shining bright intellectuals...the tracy character (darrow) had brains, the bryan ( frederic march?) was one step from an ape, and i think gene kelly played a snide reporter - possibly based on mencken - who kept commenting on the animal nature of all the stupid people...

may have been a stanley kramer film...he was a master (?) of the obvious, painting good and evil broadly enough so that slack jaws from either side could recognize themselves...

can;t be sure, but this may have been an early indication of the growing hatred for smug, disrespecftful liberals by the less wine and cheese oriented masses...

leading to the blue nose vs red neck struggle of today, in which everyone loses?
