The data is from the Energy Information Agency's International Energy Annual, 2002 and the category is "Energy Intensity": energy consumption per dollar of Gross Domestic Product 1980-2002 reported in Btu per 1995 US Dollar using market exchange rates.
In 2002, China consumed 35,764 Btu per dollar of GDP, the US consumed 10,575 Btu per dollar of GDP. This is a marked improvement over the past 10 years. In 1992 China consumed 59,021 Btu per dollar.
