I know someone who owns an independent movie rental store here in Dallas, TX, which carries a VHS version of Salo. he and some friends went to Houston in the mid-70's to catch Salo but the theater was shut down by the FBI. It has since been a cult classic amongst Italian shock/horror exploitation fans (think Dario Argento or Joe D'Amato).
I am currently working with a hardcore punk band who are releasing a DVD that will feature footage from the film (in addition to footage from Alain Resnais' "Night & Fog" and Peter Watkins's "the War Game"). As I said, Pasolini is also mentioned in the "Introducing Fascism and Nazism" series of "comic" books (this one by Stuart Hood). He is certainly someone whose cultural influence will only grow, not diminish, with time.
Bravo to anyone who supports Pasolini's genius,
-B.
