the subjective "tourist" is not just a problem for radicals...americans come to a place like new york and visit museums, see shows, or operas, and go home with tales of glamor and glitter...or they get mugged, see dirty streets, are treated gruffly by someone, and describe their experience as being in a living hell ...and they speak (relatively) the same language and are from (relatively) the same culture...and their experience is certainly , subjectively true, while it doesn't say shit about the experience of millions of new yorkers who never see a show, an opera, etc...

give cockburn a break, and maybe check your own bias: should he have only spoken to the new yuppie class? and totally disregarded any other reality in india, like, say, the dreadful situation of those who suffered in the recent floods, partly because they are not part of the wonderful progress enjoyed by those surfing on the information tech wave?
