News From the Corporate Cutting Edge

One of the latest buzzwords in the corporate world is "leverage." Last week they just cut my writing team in half. I was then told that this shouldn't affect productivity because I could leverage the training team. ("Leverage" here is a euphemism for "copy from.") The joke is that they laid off most of the training team years ago and outsourced their work; now there's not even money for the outsourcing. So actually there's nothing for me to leverage. But these are just details, you understand. What they told the training team when they tore that to shreds is that they could leverage off of docs.... Neat trick, huh?

And this is a company with, Oh, something like 5 billion in the bank.

Astonishing,

Joanna
