EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Pacifica Foundation - Berkeley, California

Pacifica Foundation, the oldest network of non-commercial, community-based radio stations in the United States, is committed to peace, social justice, and progressive social change. Founded in 1946, Pacifica provides alternative, community-based, free speech, listener-sponsored radio and does not accept corporate underwriting. Pacifica owns and operates five stations, and distributes news, public affairs, and other programs to non-commercial radio stations, schools, colleges, universities, and individuals. Pacifica also has 80+ affiliates around the country. Pacifica has both a modestly-sized paid staff and a large corps of volunteers and unpaid staff. Pacifica encourages and provides outlets for the creative skills and energies of the community, serving the cultural welfare of the areas in which it operates. The Foundation seeks to involve, in its governance and operations, individuals committed to its mission.

The Executive Director is responsible for all day-to-day management activities of Pacifica, including hiring/firing and supervising national office and managerial staff; implementing Board policy and by-laws; overseeing fundraising and development activities; supervising production and distribution of national programming; maintaining fiscal and physical integrity; complying with CPB and FCC rules/regulations and state/Federal laws/requirements; and ensuring that the Foundation is managed in a fiscally and socially-responsible fashion in compliance with the mission statement of the Foundation. The Executive Director will be responsible for leading the institution through major technological change and political/funding challenges.

The Executive Director reports to the collective body of the Pacifica Foundation Board of Directors. The Executive Director is selected, supervised, and discharged by the Board and is subject to annual evaluation by the Board.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE: 1) Executive management skills (e.g., financial/program planning, managerial expertise, human relations/resources) 2) Broadcasting industry skills (programming, distribution, marketing, fundraising, etc.) 3) Ability to work cooperatively with the Board of Directors 4) Communication skills (written and oral) 5) A record of accomplishment working in a diverse, multi-cultural, and intellectually charged setting 6) A personal commitment to peace and economic/social justice 7) Experience working in a volunteer-driven, grassroots, social change institution, preferably a media organization

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: The ideal candidate will possess a college degree combined with at least 10 years of relevant job experience, including experience as a 501(c)(3) non-profit manager, or similar position, two years preferably as General Manager of a noncommercial broadcasting station or similar position.

SALARY RANGE: Starting salary $75,000, negotiable depending on experience
