The head of Russian gas company “Gazprom” Alexey Miller stated that Russia was going to triple gas prices for Ukraine.
The information was published in the article "The International Herald Tribune", translation of which is presented by InoSmi.
According to him that will enable approximate prices to world’s level and the income will back up company’s
ambitious investment program. “Today Ukraine pays $80 for 1000m3 of Russian gas which is much cheaper as compared with the world market prices”, says the article.This intention was confirmed by the former Russian Deputy Vice-Premier, presently Victor Yushchenko’s adviser, Boris Nemtsov.
“Russia’s going to triple the prices. I hope both parties will find consensus before winter”, he told, adding that Ukraine “is going to have hard times in the coming months”.
The periodical presupposes that rise in prices may result in prices in the internal market and level of production costs, that, in its turn, may result in decrease of popularity of Yushchenko’s block Our Ukraine.
“Probably socialists and nationalists might take advantage of that”, says the article.
However, according to the journalists, the medal has its reverse: this rise in process will make Ukrainian economics more efficient and will set Russian-Ukrainian relation on a more clear and transparent basis.
