As the politics of the US continues to slide to the Right, many progressives have found it difficult to maintain their bearings. The hostility of liberals to socialist China (and North Korea) is now echoed by many progressives and by some self-styled Leftists. The Monthly Review piece [Hart/Landsberg and Burkett's, 'China and Socialism, '] is an unfortunate example of a radical journal embracing much of the Bush hostility to China from a, "Left, ' perspective that indirectly helps cement the growing liberal-conservative consensus for war with the PRC..."
