I guess it is the matter of what other choices do I have. On the one hand, we have a bunch of pogroms, lynching and genocides, organized more or less spontaneously by the God-fearing folk, self-styled patriots, militias and vigilantes cleaning their little communities from various undesirables elements, tribal leaders and warlords imposing medieval "justice." On the other hand, we have the federal state sending the troops to curb some of excesses of these home grown movements, socialist state rooting out "traditional" religious hatred, the liberal state maintaining the justice system in which unpopular minorities can argue and win their cases and so on and so fort.
So if I was black and queer I would definitely stick with the state - for it is the best protection I have in this country against being lynched. That would also hold for most other folk, but they do not know it. They think they would be instantly free and rich as soon as the state was "taken off their backs." Fools!
