this is a very shallow understanding of the history. the [personal] computer is not turing's invention any more than its von neumann's. and it is not uniquely (and i would venture, predominantly) british. if one has to speak in terms of breakthroughs, then the history includes more than just turing's ideas (or von neumann's for that matter).
