U.S. tech firms say to invest $267 mln in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Reuters) - U.S. electronics firms operating in Malaysia said on Wednesday they expected their investment in design and development operations to rise to one billion ringgit in 2005.
"Malaysian-American Electronic Industry companies see enormous potential for design and development investments, as evidenced by their 676 million ringgit expenditure in Malaysia in 2004," the American Malaysian Chambers of Commerce said in a statement.
"The forecast for D&D investments in 2005 is approximately one billion ringgit, which represents a three-fold growth since 2001," it added. The figure is equivalent to $267 million. ($1=3.75 ringgit)
