Those pics do not look worse than much of Baltimore and other US cities. At least those poor Cubans have a meager roof over their heads. Many poor US-sers do not have even that. There is a homeless colony right across the city hall in Baltimore a few blocks from where I live - in which a dozen or so homeless live under cardboard boxes and blankets. These images are more damaging to the US than the photos of shacks for the poor in Cuba for a very simple reason - Cuba is poor and cannot provide much more, the US is rich and has a choice and chooses not to provide what it can afford. That is truly despicable in my book.

PS. I have no illusions whatsover about Cuba. My son went there with a group when he was in HS and he was not at all impressed - neither by Cuba nor by the starry-eyed lefties in his group - and he is a "red diaper" kid. But it is one thing not to have illusions or being critical of those who do have them, but playing into the US propaganda game? That is inexcusable!
