Don't forget about that UNOCAL pipeline the military action in Afghanistan was about that nobody seems to be building. (I hesitate to call it a "war," when it was mostly an exercise in bribing warlords as far as I can tell.) And what is going on in Chechnya is all about oil, even though most of Russia's oil is in Siberia and all Chechnya's oil procedes go to the republic's government.
