But white racists are obsessed with black people - even in places like Kansas where there aren't many around. Of course, it's a paranoid "seeing" and not a genuine recognition, but it's not exactly an invisibility problem.

CB: Yes, this fits logically. Among white racists the white pride movement that Carroll referred to _has_ "taken off", unlike among most people ( white people :>)). I don't know whether the KKK-types referred to Dukakis as a "white presidential" candidate, but it would be interesting if they did.
