w.r.t literary reviews: he did do a hatchet job on somerset maugham in an atlantic (yes, i did mistakenly subscribe to that magazine once!) piece last year (IIRC). maugham's got his weak points, but hitchens is nothing but a pompous asshole -- the buckley/safire equivalent pedant of the "left"?
