I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, the RAF & USAF "show" in Dresden was merely a re-enactment of similar shows courtesy of the Luftwaffe. On the other hand, however, it was the civilian population that suffered the consequences. On the third hand (if there is such a thing) or rather paw, notice the omission of the qualifier "innocent" before the word "civilians" in the above sentence. One needs only to watch documentaries from, say, the Nuremberg rallies to conclude that they got what the collectively asked for. On the fourth paw, those who marched in the Nuremberg or later committed war atrocities in Europe, are not necessarily those who died in the fire bombing of Dresden.

Is there a rational position on this issue other than the trite anti-war slogans? I do not think so, but then again, humans are not rational (at least not fully) and the only rational thing is to accept that.
