Is this pre- or post-1989, or both? Moscow has over five times as many cars as it did in 1991, and simply owning a car (as opposed to a kind of car) is not a status symbol. The traffic jams are unbelievable. This is despite the fact that Moscow probably has the best public transportation system in the world and is hardly built for cars. (That's one thing Stalin knew how to do well -- build metros.)
