How clear are you really ? The Lafayette Clinic that Engler closed , down from my house for about 30 years, was not doing warehousing. It's pretty clear that a lot of people were worse off with the closing of these Michigan hospitals since being out in the street is worse than what was had.

Jim Westrich : Just so were clear here. Marta was talking about housing supports in the community and you are lamenting the loss of human warehouses. The point is NOT that state institutions are good but that a varied range of community options are not available now and will be getting worse with Bush's cuts.

The housing policies need to try to get people to the least restrictive environment possible (and yes sometimes complete care is the least restrictive). These community options are much cheaper than human warehousing too. It is just that Bush is slashing supports for the cheaper options--which is not fascistic at all but lean and mean capitalism. After all it is the right wing that generally want more state institutions to keep people in and ignore the real problem of underfunding community options.
