In other words, socialist revolution evolved into something more consistent with the culture and worldview of the majority of the population.

BTW when Gorbachev is asked why he started glastnost', he almost invariably says something about the Soviert educational system having transformed a country of peasants into a country of engineers, who had a different value system that their parents and grandparents and so wanted a different kind of country.
