I'd like to see an effort to redefine the liberal/conservative terms as 
they apply to social issues.

An easily understood analogy could provide the redefinition.

Liberal could apply to a social program in which a pot of money is 
provided and society is encouraged to take what they need. Conservative 
could point to a program where research determines how much money is 
needed to maintain self-esteem and health and society provides that 
amount as a baseline.
