"...People indeed make mistakes, but once a course of action has been decided upon in a democratic fashion, you are duty-bound to help implement that decision, not undermine it, particularly if undermining that decision increases our chances of defeat at the hands of the enemy. This is called democracy..."

well, we can all define democracy, or what a "democratic fashion" is, in different ways, unfortunately... we certainly have to acknowledge the obvious, that bush won the election, but we don't have to go along with the program...do we?

from the gut, i wouldn't cross a picket line, but that would be without thinking, and simply operating from the gut...not the best way to exercise "democratic fashion"...

but if i knew that the pickets were representing, say ( now i have to find a demon-image suitable for this group), um, saddam... or milosevic...or the fundamentalist christian right...or anti-choice, etc... would i still?

too much individualism is a curse, but too much submission to authority, without checking it out, is just as bad...

a real dilemma, not easily reduced to a slogan, or an email post...
