Them too, but for all the faults of American unions, most nonwhite, nonmale workers are far better off with one than without. This sounds a bit like those ticking time bomb defenses of torture - examples that have little basis in the real world, but serve, consciously or not, to make an appalling practice seem a bit more acceptable.
