It's clear that you can't be trusted to run a safe house for runaway slaves, Jews hiding from fascists, illegal immigrants evading the Migra, etc. because you deny that lying in any context is acceptable, let alone a moral obligation.

I'm sure that leftists who were not in the know had a very good reason to doubt that the Sandinistas could afford to give material and military support to the FMLN. The very same article that you posted here says that "the Soviets reneged on the deal" of supplying MIGs to the Sandinistas (Glenn Garvin, "We Shipped Weapons, Sandinistas Say," the Miami Herald, July 18, 1999, <http://www.fiu.edu/~yaf/reagannica.html>). The Sandinistas had a much smaller pocketbook than the Soviets did and were more exposed to US attacks than the Soviets were, so it was reasonable to think that the Sandinistas would be cautious about giving weapons and ammunitions to their ideological allies elsewhere.

In any case, you completely forget the fact that the Sandinistas and the FMLN were fighting wars, and the FMLN would not have wanted the world to know who gave them their weapons, when, how, how much, etc. Only the naive would believe that there could have been no informers among the Sandinistas' and the FMLN's respective "cadres" and foreign "sympathizers." In war not everyone can be trusted, and those who trust all (including the simpletons who think that they must declare to the world all the military support that they give or receive and who therefore can be milked by informers) endanger themselves and others they support. -- Yoshie
