Aryans. There are some very detailed attempts at describing what makes an Aryan. Intelligent people took this stuff seriously not all that long ago, 1880's or so. There are measurements and language lineages etc. Iran is named for the Aryans, and there are many more references for ages back. One of the big problems for the Nazi's was that the Ethiopian upper classes fit the then definition of Aryan, as did certain groupings in then India.

I have some funny stories about it if any one cares.
