Sasha,

I notice you have not countered, in fact you have even deleted many of the substantive points I made in my original post. Being a KPFA board members is a public position and it is incumbent upon me to make public statements (i.e. state my opinion) about station matters - especially matters such as this, provided I am not violating confidentiality.

Whether or not there are valid sexual harrasment claims against the KPFA GM is something the board cannot determine without a fair investigation - as well as access to reports of the previous investigation conducted by Pacifica - which thus far we have not been allowed to review. (This report by the way was originally requested by Roy Campanella himself) We cannot pass judgment without all the facts in hand. I should add that Max Blanchet, Lavarn Williams, Richard Phelps, myself and other LSB members approached Dan Coughlin in February to ask him to look into allegations of about harrasment etc. Dan stonelwalled and told us not to get involved. Then suddenly in May Dan says he needs the LSB to review he GM's performance.

As to the Weyland Southon incident, all the witnesses I have spoken to - (including Weyland himself) say that Weyland was being very abusive and agressive towards Roy. Roy certainly reacted inappropriately, but it is an undisputed fact that Weyland provoked the situation deliberately.

Something else you are conveniently ignoring: Weyland Southon is a relatively douhty late 30ish fellow - Roy Campanella is in his late fifties, decidedly overweight, has high blood pressure and probably could not run up the stairs if he had to. While he clearly showed very bad judgment, I doubt very much he was fixing for a fight. Either way, the board has not completed its investigation of this matter.

On this matter and the alleged sexual harassment matter you seem to be asking for a summary execution - some of prefer due process.

There is also a clear double standard, where 'violence' at the station is concerned. Dev Ross, who actually committed a violent act is still at the station and the people calling for Roy's head are not saying that Dev too must go.

We already know we disagree about the nature of the problem at KPFA. If you want to debate me, lets' debate, but the protestations you offer below are no substitute.

Joe W.
