U.S. brigadier general discusses rise of militias in Iraq
The Associated Press TAMPA, Fla. -- A U.S. brigadier general whose command fights terrorism around the world said Thursday that Iraq is wrestling with "a very tough problem" in dealing with sectarian militias acting independent of its fledgling government.
But Brigadier Gen. Francis H. Kearney also characterized the debate in Iraq over militias as "democracy in action."
