Well,thanks for the vote of confidence. Dwayne just reminded me that one reason why there might be such hostility to religion on the list is due to traumatic childhood experiences with religion. I never went through that thanks to issuing from a mixed Xtian/Jewish marriage and to socialist Romania. So I have no trauma to recover from.

When I try to talk about the virtues of socialism/communism, lots of folks say things like "Communism? You mean Stalinism?" or "Communism? You mean, like North Korea." So, you know, how things get played out in reality can give anything a bad rep. The thing is to be able to disentangle what may yet happen from everything that has gone before and not to think that we are doomed to repeat stuff forever. Like I once said to my shrink: "All I want is to make new mistakes."
