But plenty of religious folk also dislike fundies for many of the same reasons anybody would dislike them -- they fear talibanization, not to mention apparent alliance or at least aquiescence to a neoliberal empire with an armored fist. Which go against all manner of religious [(pr)|t]eaching, if not practice. Which, to close the loop, suggests opportunities for alliances.
Some interviewer once asked Chomsky (who seems to be agnostic about even being able to speculate about God) about teaming up with conservative Christians who sent people to Central America in the 80s to stand in front of the bulldozers, so to speak. Ok, in front of the M-16s. He replied, "Life doesn't come in neat little packages."
