A request from another list that prompted me to ask, here, what books and films might you recommend?

Hi Folks,

I'll be team teaching a master of arts in liberal studies course with a professor from our English dept. The theme of the course is Culture and Knowledge. Our focus will be the construction of the other and othering. I'd very much appreciate recommendations for recent texts in sociology and anthropology that address our focus. FYI, the students will include folks seeking a Masters in Liberal Studies and folks getting a Masters in Education.

Thanks for your help in this matter.

"The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary."
