Two reasons, which only a large and noisy mass movement can get around:
1) Very very few people have the theoretical framework that can make sense of the fact.
2) Almost no one has even been introduced to the fact.
Tens of millions need to be strongly convinced that the U.S. has made a terrible mistake in Iraq before millions can be brought to see that the U.S. has committed a great crime in Iraq.
It won't happen gradually -- it will happen in unexpected spurts. In between one has to just keep plugging, reaching a person here, a person there.
