I am not sure if this USD 1 per day basis is really appropriate measure of per capita GDP. On PPP basis, India's per capita GDP was $2670 in 2002. India's GDP has grown by about 15% in last two years and the population has grown by about 4%. So India's per capita GDP on PPP basis may be close to $3000.

Doug has already given you the numbers, so I will not repeat them.

When "Capitalism in one country" is impossible, "socialism in one country" is unthinkable.
