"Putting a million people in the streets changes the way people think

about the balance of power - or could. Putting a few thousand only

confirms the balance of power."

agreed...but...

has anyone here commented about media coverage of these marches, which is often far more important than the march itself? i'd like to hear what that was in other parts of the country ...

interestingly, here on the coast (east bay), though i didn't see the chron, which tends to be "the" paper in popular conception everywhere else, the contra costa times, major voice of the east bay, was very respectful ,and even positive...

while the low numbers mentioned made me gulp and think it was even worse than i feared, the copy leaned on speakers, like relatives of vets, making passioned statements against war, and framed things in a generally sympathetic way... photos of "middle" looking folks and little notice of crowd size beyond one mention at the beginning, and that mention not gloating but seeming matter of fact...

lots of established power is against this war, and this administration, but this paper is of the extreme middle, almost worthy of running as a democratic candidate for president...so i was impressed...if that was a more general attitude on the part of media, that would be mildly encouraging...

be thankful for small favors...
