Is this really controversial? The whole German side of my family (peasant and working class Schwabians) supported Hitler. It wasn't until the 60s until Germans started to give the Hitler years a minus on opinion polls.

If Hitler had died in 1935 or so, history might well regard him positively. So much depends on timing as far as the legacy thing is concerned...
