Bengal goes to Sweden for Ericsson unit

KOLKATA: West Bengal is sending a team of officials to Stockholm to convince Swedish telephone makers Ericsson to set a production unit in the state.
State IT Minister Manab Mukherjee is leading a delegation to Europe to hold discussions with several IT, telecom and financial companies and try to convince them to invest in West Bengal.
Besides Sweden, the team would several European countries, including visit Finland, Britain, Germany and Switzerland.
In Stockholm, the team would meet officials of Ericsson, the world's fifth largest mobile phone manufacturer and invite them to set up a production facility in West Bengal.
Mukherjee said the state could offer foreign investors many incentives, including an environment that is conducive to great business and a very impressive pool of technical workers.
In the other countries, the team would talk to companies like Motorola, SAAP, HSBC, Lucent Technologies, Barclays Bank and Electrolux.
Besides, meetings have also been scheduled with chambers of commerce of Hamburg and Hanover and the confederation of British industries.
Accompanying minister Mukherjee is a team of top officials from IT companies operating out of Kolkata.
