[lbo-talk] New Imperialism?

It is not only the left that seems to think that something the "North" has depends on oppressing the "South". Otherwise, why has the right organized the U.S. military invasion or occupation of so much of the rest of the world ? Is U.S. military imperialism based upon an illusion that rightwingers have about their own material self-interests and the sources of their wealth ? Is U.S. military imperialism economically irrational ? I remember a thread here about six years ago, where it was hypothesized that U.S. war on Viet Nam was rooted in male aggression , "machoism"( I think).

Did the evil that resides in the "South" make the "North" invade ?

If all the rest of the world had Bolivarian like revolutions, would the U.S. material abundance be threatened ? If not, why is the U.S. concerned about Venezuela direction today ? Because the Bolivarians are evil ?

Methinks ye doth protest too much. Methinks the North doth invade and conquer too much.

Another point, the view that the North is rich because the South is poor is a bunch of crap not supported by any empirical evidence. However, it fits well the Calvinist guilt-ridden mind set that much of the left espouses. But like any religious belief, it is impossible to disprove it by factual evidence. But once you take that point of view, the downtrodden masses and countries can do no wrong - the evil resides solely in the North.
