Dwayne asked:

Now Mr. Blair faces an election. A lot of blood stained water has flowed under the bridge since he co-signed War Plan Iraq. If he wins an *unprecedented third term* what lessons should we draw about people's tolerance of BS (or estrangement from a cause and effect understanding of reality) in not one, but two of the major Western democracies?

*************************

1. True to the TINA level of political choice in "the major Western democracies", the proles wisely chose the candidate who would hurt them less. The Tories would support the invasion/occupation plus working on how to undermine the National Health. I suspect the Liberals have a similar, rightward agenda. Those to the left of these parties are not taken seriously by most of the workers in this day and age.

2. As long as the wage system in the major capitalist democracies is functioning as well as it does, the proles will resist rational arguments to abolish it i.e. they'd rather watch TV or, if they're "hip", play with their i-pods.

3. However, it will start dawning on more and more proles that the system is causing them and their offspring real harm as Global Warming and other forms of ecocide become linked in their consciousness to the inherent need of Capital to expand or die. In other words, as it becomes more of a "them or us" situation, workers will become more receptive to seeing that the realities of TINA are no longer rational.

Best, Mike B)
