QUESTION: Mr. Secretary, what do you think about the Cuba situation?
RUMSFELD: Well, you know, you look around the world there are Cuban people everywhere, in this country and so many countries. And they're intelligent and they're industrious and they're energetic. And I can remember when Castro came in, and I bet you I'll be able to remember when he leaves.
So -- and George Schultz came in to me one day and said, "Don, the president wants you to be in charge of the economic stabilization program."
And I said, "You mean wage and price controls?"
He said, "Yes."
I said, "I don't believe in 'em."
And he said, "I know, Don. That's why we want you to be in charge." (Laughter.)
