I had dinner with Graeber after the Left Forum in NYC a few weeks 
ago. He said then that the Yale anthro department had it out for him 
- for political reasons. I don't know anything about his scholarship 
in anthro, but the usual practice would have been to fire him next 
year, since Yale almost never gives anyone tenure after their 
seven-year probation period - stars are hired from elsewhere with 
tenure, but junior faculty almost never gets it. Accelerating the 
firing is unusual.
