Gotta disagree with you strongly here. The guy's a propagandist whose genius rivals Luntz's. That program of renaming everything in sight after Reagan will be paying dividends for decades. Norquist has figured out that even better than a standing opposition party to absorb angst occasioned by the ruling party's policies is an opposition party that falls all over itself to capitulate to the rulers and ape their policies. You limit the range of acceptable discourse while still retaining your ability to denigrate 'elites' and whatnot. And there's always the prospect of fighting wars of aggression against brown foreigners and prosecuting domestic 'treason.'
