Read William Morris on Socialism and Art. He thought that the problem with capitalism was that it made everything ((including people) ugly, and that the working class deserved beauty and style.
*************** I agree with this sentiment. I just wish I could afford it. ;P I mean, who wants to live in squalor? Who wants to buy into the culture of cheapness? That's what the ruling class have designed to sell us, sure--but who really prefers it? For that matter, why do we freely choose, in our free-market ways, Wall Mart crap made in China by poorly paid wage-slaves? Because we're poor. To glorify poverty is more the role of the religious monk than the communist revolutionary.
