Charles, you will never do, what you should do and read Trotskyist and libertarian socialist texts that critique your dinosaurism. MG has it exactly right, anti-Stalinist leftists criticize the USSR/ fSU (and I have long thought, in self-critique that Trot, Menshevik or libertarian socialists cnn tend towards a metaphysical idealism though) on socialist, communist, marxist, radical democratic grounds. Reactionary? Save me the CPUSA boilerplate I have seen a zillion times in pamphlets from International Publishers from the 30's.
