his criticism of halloween seemed far more economic and cultural than anti-fun, as assumed by some here...like only americans know how to truly appreciate cute kids, free the spirit, watch it soar, but also be really , really dumb people, politically and otherwise... except for when they trick or treat?
and for all the joys of watching kids all dressed up on halloween, and memories of my own childhood when it was fun to commit acts of vandalism on halloween ( sorry, new york, urban jungle and all), the total commodification of the thing can be truly sickening...
not the least is the fact of the former adventure of cute kids knocking on doors trick or treating has become a middle class frenzy of shopping for costumes and then, worst of all, going with the kids and standing right behind them as they ask for candies...that's as cute as adults totally fucking up kids ball playing by inventing little league, with rules, uniforms, scoreboards and other products enabling crippled souls to attempt reliving their childhood, by abusing that of their children...
barf, and i know the parental halloween tac squad has to do with safety, but where the fuck is the spirit and joy, and wonderfulness, if mom, dad or a committee has to watch over all that nice stuff, to make sure it fits the commercial program?
give him a break, and consider that he, and Venezuelans, might not need lessons from americans about how to really enjoy themselves...especially since the overwhelming majority of them don't have anywhere near the american middle (?) class budget for costume and candy shopping, and already have a generations old, pagan inspired, pre catholic ( all hallows), and pre marketing, day of the dead ...
