Nathan's right about this. It's long been an article of left faith that the Dems have moved to the right, but that depends on your point of comparison. If it's the early 1970s, maybe. If it's just about any other time in American history, the case is much harder to make. The party of the 1930s and 1950s was full of reactionary southern racists.
