how would 'elites' respond to serious domestic challenge to their rule, one option would be to step up existing use of political manipulation, another would be to really turn up 'white heat' of political terror, i'm pretty much assuming that they would not accept electoral verdict ushering in victory - against all odds, obviously - based on pledge to tax wealthy to pay for education/health/housing/employment programs, demilitarize budget, support self-determination for third world people, perhaps such a situation would provide answer re. above... mh
