Toyota Planning New China Car Plant in Mid-2007

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's Toyota Motor Corp. (7203.T: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Wednesday it was planning to set up a new car factory in Tianjin, China with local partner FAW Group to build around 200,000 compact cars a year starting in mid-2007.
The plant would be the third for Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co. and be built on land adjacent to its second factory in Tianjin. The joint venture also builds the Vios, Corolla, Crown and Reiz models.
The plant's kick-off is pending approval from the central government, a Toyota spokesman said.
