2 Algerians held for attempt on Musharraf's life
PESHAWAR: A judicial magistrate has cancelled bail of two Algerian men after receiving bail cancellation applications from the Criminal Investigation Department of the police that they were wanted for interrogation in an assassination attempt on President Pervez Musharraf last year.
Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Tufail had earlier granted bail applications to Abul Ghayas and Abu Safyan on the grounds that they had valid visa documents, which had not expired yet. After their release on bail, the CID immediately submitted that the foreigners were wanted for interrogations by the government of Pakistan in the assassination attempts on President Musharraf in Rawalpindi. The CID told the judge that they had received information that the two Algerians had links with the planners who launched a suicide attack in their bid to assassinate Musharraf in Rawalpindi. On October 8, they were arrested in the jurisdiction of Gulbahar police as they travelled to Rawalpindi by bus. They were charged under section 14 of Foreigners Act. They did not have their passports at the time of the arrest. A military court has already sentenced one soldier to death and another to 10-year jail in the assassination bid.
