President George W. Bush guarantees publicity when he makes a local campaign appearance on behalf of congressional candidates, but new poll numbers suggest he now brings more baggage than benefits to candidates who choose to embrace him. A recent CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll finds a majority of voters -- including most independents -- say they are less likely to back a Republican congressional candidate who is supported by Bush. Only 9% of voters prefer a Republican congressional candidate who agrees with Bush on most major issues.
