Interesting how the CBC can interview Indians who are veterans of the Gustafson Lake standoff between 24 Indians and over 400 Royal Canadian Mounted Police 10 years ago and still portray them inaccurately. As terrorists!!! How typical. Called terrorists by the Canadian government, these Indian people were attempting to protect a Sundance site used by the defenders as a spiritual center for keeping their strength in the ongoing battle to maintain bits of land and life here and there. A cattle owner wanted the land back for his beef. The history of the people and those coming together from different Indigenous nations to unify in maintaining it's customary use is so glibly shrugged off. Why can't the true stories ever be told? No reporter, without a frame of reference, will serve the truth in such situations. As the horror of widespread abuse of over 80,000 Indigenous veterans of residental schools unfolds, the tiny portal of opportunity for the scope of Indigenous subjugation to be heard challenges any of us possessing conscience.....

The man who became the spokesperson, Splits the Sky, was someone i met in l990 at an event addressing the criminalization of marijuana in Washington D.C. He told me a little of his life as a 19 year old during the Attica uprising. It was to be a catalyst for him as a voice for Indigenous struggle that hallmarked the 60's.

I saw him in the video made about Gustafason Lake, but was a bit disturbed by the rather militia-like perspective of the elder named Wolverine. Made me wonder about the inroads made by the right wingy dingies into Indigenous communities. Sad commentary on the failure of leftists to align deeply with Indigenous peoples.

Thanksgiving???? MY FUCKING WHITE ASS!!!!
