[lbo-talk] Catholic Church admits fallibility of Bible!

This isn't terribly surprising, is it? The Catholic Church has never been
much into textual literalism. Protestants appealed to textual literalism as
a way to attack the priests and to argue that the individual believer should
have just as much right to read and understand scripture as the hierarchy;
as I recall, some Catholics used to counter that the very choice of which
books went into the Bible was made by the Catholic Church in the first
place -- therefore the wisdom of the hierarchy and "tradition" were equally
important. Weird, ain't it, that this view now looks less reactionary by
comparison?
